New York, N.Y. – November 11, 2013 – Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio Show Your Stripes, the largest public service program in the company’s history which launched in June and has become the most mainstream public campaign addressing the growing issue of U.S. veteran unemployment in communities across the nation, released today a new series of radio and outdoor PSAs specifically for Veterans Day. Clear Channel Media and Entertainment will air a variety of spots on Nov. 11 that include veterans sharing personal employment success as well as input from artists like Kelly Clarkson, Krewella, Ryan Seacrest, Adam Lambert, Flo Rida and others on the importance of hiring veterans. Clear Channel Outdoor will also unveil a new series of digital displays on Veterans Day across the U.S., including New York’s Times Square, featuring celebrities Katy Perry, Bon Jovi, TLC, Ryan Seacrest, The Kardashians and Steve Harvey.
“The men and women who have served our country have picked up qualities in the military that any employer would covet – loyalty, reliability, dedication and so many others,” said Ryan Seacrest in a radio spot.
In just five months, iHeartRadio’s Show Your Stripes has gained the support of iconic legends in music and pop culture across all music and entertainment genres. Elton John, John Legend, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Mario Lopez, Trace Adkins and LL Cool J have all participated. Clear Channel has also spotlighted hundreds of U.S. businesses with a proven history and proactive plan for hiring veterans across its 850 radio stations and Clear Channel Outdoor’s out-of-home advertising platforms – donating well over $100 million worth of media. The campaign has generated over 4.5 billion media impressions and has attracted over 2,000 national and local companies who have shared stories of veteran employment success. Since program launch, 15.3 million billboard displays have run in support of the campaign across the U.S.
“America has the most highly skilled group of veterans in our history returning from military duty and we are using the reach of Clear Channel’s 850 radio stations, our iHeartRadio platform and Outdoor assets to help place them back into the workforce,” said John Sykes, President of Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises. “We have created an effective system that matches unemployed veterans with employers in their home towns who are looking for highly skilled and reliable employees."
The campaign’s digital platform, showyourstripes.org, was designed by Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, in partnership with Monster.com and Military.com, to easily and effectively connect businesses and veterans. The website provides veteran users access to 70,000 military-friendly jobs, as well as offers businesses the opportunity to post jobs specifically geared toward the skills provided by veterans. More than 100,000 job applications have been submitted to a wide variety of companies by veterans searching for jobs on iHeartRadio Show Your Stripes’ website, and that number is expected to grow significantly in the coming weeks.
“Monster and Military.com are proud to participate in iHeartRadio’s Show your Stripes,” said Retired Navy Rear Adm. T. McCreary, President of Military.com and Vice President of Monster Worldwide. Our servicemembers made a commitment to our country and we are honored to show our appreciation by offering them proven tools to secure the best job possible in their post-military life.”
Additionally, the program has successfully brought together the biggest companies in the world as well as local businesses through iHeartRadio’s Show Your Stripes Alliance, a coalition of American businesses identified as being military-friendly and which have already experienced success in hiring veterans. The goal of the Alliance is to make military-friendly businesses more visible to veterans seeking jobs, and ultimately increase veteran applications for open positions.
“Since kicking off our own veterans hiring initiative this Memorial Day, Walmart has hired over 20,000 veterans and we anticipate we’ll hire 100,000 over the next five years,” said Walmart U.S. CEO and Navy Veteran Bill Simon. “We’re glad to see other employers like Walmart unite through the iHeartRadio Show Your Stripes campaign for the sake of making it easier for our American heroes to find work when they return home.”
